Colton, California – September 2, 2023 -

The City of Colton Public Utilities has actively taken measures to address the power outage affecting the Rancho Mediterranean community at 700 E. Washington. The initial power outage occurred in the late evening of August 31, affecting the Cooley Circuit. Colton Utilities Crews were dispatched to diagnose and repair the issues. As of 10:30 am on Friday, September 1, the majority of businesses and residential areas had their power restored. However, Rancho Mediterranean is a master metered location with a single connection to the Colton Utility Line. Upon thorough inspection of all equipment, facilities, cables, and infrastructure, it has been determined that the issue requiring repair is located on the property of 700 E. Washington, which falls outside the City's jurisdiction as Rancho Mediterranean is private property.

City staff and the HOA of Rancho Mediterranean have been in constant communication throughout the outage. The HOA was notified of the situation on Friday afternoon, and they have been encouraged to engage an electrician with high voltage experience for the necessary repairs. At this time, the City does not have an update regarding the progress of these repairs. However, as soon as they are completed, power will be re-energized.

The City of Colton remains committed to supporting the Rancho Mediterranean community during this challenging time. The Gonzales Center, located at 670 Colton Avenue, is open as a cooling center daily until power is restored. The facility provides shelter from adverse weather conditions and offers the ability to charge phones and other devices. Operating hours for Saturday, September 2 are until 9 pm, and Sunday's hours are from 10 am to 6 pm.

The City of Colton Public Utilities remains dedicated to ensuring the well-being of its residents and will continue to provide updates as they become available.
