School Teacher Programs

The City of Colton is committed to inspiring environmental stewardship in our youth. We sponsor multiple educational programs designed to engage students and support teachers in delivering sustainability-focused instruction.

Mr. Eco Hero Show

This interactive program uses music and performance to empower students to become EcoHeroes—champions for sustainability at school, at home, and in their community. It can be delivered in person or via livestream as a classroom or assembly experience.

Program goals include:

  • Creating a sustainable culture
  • Increasing recycling efforts
  • Encouraging personal behavior change
  • Reducing energy and water waste
  • Inspiring lifelong EcoHero leadership
  • Promoting stormwater awareness and compliance

rEV: Electric Vehicle Education Program

This unique program introduces students at Colton Middle School and Colton High School to electric vehicle (EV) technology and its benefits through a fun, interactive experience.

Fall Semester Highlights:

  • Teachers were registered via phone or email.
  • City of Colton Electric Utility-branded rEV kits were delivered to schools.
  • Materials included:
    • Teacher Folder: Welcome Letter, Rewarding Results flyer, rEV Challenge Contest flyer, classroom poster
    • Student Materials: rEV flyers with EV information, branded carabiners

Interactive Presentation:

Teachers were sent a link to a 35-minute “choose your adventure” rEV video where students guided a rideshare driver’s first EV experience. Along the way, they learned about:

  • EV technology and batteries
  • Charging methods
  • Driving performance
  • Environmental and economic advantages

Tinker Energy Efficiency Program

The program was developed to educate students in CEU's service area about energy efficiency through the implementation of a locally based energy efficiency education program within schools. Tinker LLC developed a curriculum that included locally based lessons, STEM activities, digital program resources, student contests, teacher grants, and an Energy Efficiency Kit containing water- and energy-saving devices for each student.

Program Components:

  • STEM-based curriculum and digital resources
  • Teacher grants and student contests
  • An Energy Efficiency Kit for each student, including water- and energy-saving devices

Program Objectives:

  • Equip teachers with tools to deliver effective lessons on water and electricity conservation
  • Involve families in practicing energy-efficient behaviors at home
  • Encourage lasting conservation habits with age-appropriate tools and incentives
  • Promote CEU’s residential efficiency programs
  • Strengthen CEU’s reputation as a trusted utility partner
