Colton residents can dispose of household hazardous waste at the following locations at no cost. Commercial customers have to pay a disposal fee:

For the convenience of Colton residents, the city offers two locations for sharps drop-off. 
Note: Free drop-off must be in a container 1-gallon in size or smaller.

Mandatory Commercial Recycling (AB341)

With the passage of Assembly Bill 341, businesses and public entities that generate four cubic yards or more of waste per week and multifamily complexes with five or more units are required to recycle.

Mandatory Commercial Organic Recycling (AB 1826)

On or after April 1, 2016, a business that generates eight cubic yards or more of organic waste must recycle that material. This will decrease to four cubic yards of organic waste in 2017. In 2019 all businesses with 4 or more yards of solid waste per week will be required to participate in organic waste recycling.

California law (SB 1383, Lara, Chapter 395, Statutes of 2016) targets a 50 percent reduction in the landfilling of organic waste in 2022. If you are a commercial business producing organic waste in search of donation locations, please click here (opens in a new tab).
