John R. Echevarria was elected as the Council Member of then District 5 in December 2020. He has been re-elected in 2022 to represent the new District 4 for another term. He has been a resident of Colton for over 25 years.  Echevarria received his Associate's degree in Administration of Justice from San Bernardino Valley College, his Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from California State University San Bernardino, and his Master's degree in Public Administration from California Baptist University.  Echevarria is a certified Spanish interpreter who is qualified to read, write, speak and understand Spanish fluently.  His public service campaign began at the age of 18 when he became a police cadet with the City of Upland and at the age of 21 a police officer. He subsequently transferred over to become a police officer with the City of San Bernardino, where he currently serves the public in the Community Affairs Division.  He has previously served on Colton Planning Commission for the City-at-Large.  Council Member Echevarria represents the City of Colton by being a member of several local/regional boards and committees which include:

As Council Member representing District 4 and the City of Colton, some of Echevarria’s goals and objectives include:

  • Enhance our Public Safety so as to attract new businesses to our City
  • Sharpen our Customer Service skills with all City employees to improve communication
  • Ensure our Community Success by keeping Colton residents Informed, Included, and Involved
  • Treat everyone with respect and dignity
